SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
A special nicotine of the Mackenzie School Committee was held on Monday. Present:—Messrs Pocklington (chairman), Allan, Laugesen, and Mooro. Out of names submitted by the Education Board for the position of assistant mistress, that of Miss Pearco was selected for appointment. Messrs Moor© and Laugesen were appointed secretary and treasurer, respectively, to tho committee. The Waltham School Committee met on Monday night. Present:—Messrs C. V. Harvey (chairman), W. R. Coomber, J. ft. Shaw, T.. C. Mortlock, I. Empson, G. Ab'rett, and Mrs F. Wilson. Th&'headmaster reported that tho average attendance for the past month had been 665, highest attendance. 680, present roll number 716, average for tiie year 699, average attendance for, year 633. The headmistress of tlm'infant department wrote thanking the Committee for their donation of £3 towards the Christmas tree for the children in that department. It was resolved to forward a letter of thanks to Miss King for Tier kindly action in this matter and to express the Committee's satisfaction at tho way in which the Christinas tree arrangement had been carried out. A letter was read from Mr A. Kirk complaining of the status of his son, and asking the Committee to assist him m bringing the matter before the Education Board at its next meeting. Agreed. Tho Visiting Committee rei>orte<l thatthe school and grounds were in a very satisfactory condition.
