Bales, Government Meteorologist, ■applied the following weather summary and forecast ot 5 p.m. yesterday:— An intense area ot low pressure in tho South hue caueed an increase in the wind force. Westerly gales are reported at many stations this afternoon. Tho wer.thcr has been very changoab'o, with scattered showera, but pome heavy rain has fallen to-day, efpecia'ly in the Sonth and on the "Wet Coast. Present indications a r e for westerly winds, strong to gnlo, and veering to southerly icon, the barometer risin? r.nd the winds probably decreasing fn force to-morrow with d'ruitiisliiri<r barometric '"■•■dipnt.
