LANCASTER PARK FETE.
Nowadays, people ore quite as keen as the adventurers of the old days'io discover hidden treasure, but many rhave no liking for embarking on "perilous seas forlorn" in furtherance of tho quest. All the exciting glow and all tho glorious uncertainty, of a treasure-hunt will be obtainable by the people of Christohurch on Anniversary Day (December 16th), when the promoters •of tho Lancaster Park Fete will provide no fewer than fivo hidden treasures to be, found by those who possess t'ho deductive faculty for which the great Sherlock Holmes was famous, or who have tho happy knack of finding that which they determine to find. These treasure-bunts are but ono of .tho numerous attractions of tho fete, and thero will be provided other means of securing treasure without hunting for it/ so that the lucky and tho unlucky will havo a chanco of enrichment.
A meeting of tho Modified Marathon Sub-Committeo in connection witli the fete was held last night, Air H. S. Williams in the chair. A slight alteration Was mado in tho route, tho ono selected being from the foot of the Port Bills to tho Colombo street railway crossing, thence across Madras street bridge, along Moorhouse avenue to Colombo street, past City Hotel to Lancaster Park. The following officials /were elected :—Judges,. Dr. Thomas,, Messrs C. T. Aschmaji, H. S. Batcheand E. E. Daniels; handicapper and starter, Air H. S. Williams; check starter, Mr, C. F. Pratt; timekeepers, Aiessrs R. Wallace, W. Johnson and G. Battley. Mr Oscar Anderson was added to tho sub-committee, and was placed in chargo of the route •stewards.
At the meeting of the City Council last night the Mayor stated that he had seen Air Wilding, a prominent member of the Board of Con--4i wii* a \ lc «ster Pnrk7 and Air Wilding had assured him that no inducement whatever would ever cause *ho Board to allow the Park to fall .5 to -•£.£. n<l . of P«vato speculators. Mr Wilding also promised that if the ..Board at any time required assistance, the first body to be approached would be the City Council, and Air Wilding had also promised him that if at any time it became necessary to dispose of the Park, th© City Council should have the first refusal.
