BREAD, SCONES AND CAKES

The competition in this section was most animated, and the competitors hailed from all parts of the provincial district. Tho exhibits looked very appetising, and w«ji'o the subject of much comment from tho large numbers of the fair sex by whom they wero inspected. There were twelve competitors in the class for home-made broad, and tho first prize was awarded to Mrs H. Martin (Ashburton), the second falling to Miss M. A: Greenan (Doyleston), and the third to Mrs D. Hampton (Lceston). The class for oven scones was another in which the competition was very keen. The first prize was awarded Miss Jean Dunlop (Chaneys), tho second Went to Mrs It. E. Wornall (Amberley), and tho third to Miss Dorothy Burford (Sydenham). Miss C. Belcher (Waitaki South) boro off first and seer ond prizes for six wholemeal scones, tho third award- falling to Mrs J. Anderson (Amberley). In tho class for six girdle scones, Mrs .W. Syme (Kimberley) was first; Miss C. Belcher secured second*, and third. There was good competition in tho classes for cakes. For home-made fruit cake, Mrs J. Anderson (Amberley) secured first prize, and Mrs 11. E. Wornall (Amberley) second. Mrs D. Clucas (Ashburton) was awarded first prizo for home-mado sponge cake, the second prize falling to Miss Pago (Kirwee). .
