THE ANNUAL CONTESTS.
The eighth night of the contests drew another fairly good - house, last evening. Tho programme contained no les3 than twentytwo items, and. all the performers acquitted themselves -well, tho club eolo and vocal duete being very good. A dialogue by the Linwood Methodist Band of Hope concluded the The recitations were much »bo-ve last year's, and shj>w the steady progress that the competitors are making each roar. The Union selections for last evening's programme "were: —Vocal duet (female, E), "Beyond"; vocal duet (female, D), "Farewell to Summer"; vocal duet (Class B), ."Piper's Song"; vocal duot (Class C), "Life's Dream is O'er." The programme for to-night will consist of dumbbell displays, vocal solos, pianoforte aolos, and impromptu speeches. The results of Monday night's programme ire as follow:— Children's Chorus—Crescent road 1, Oxford terrace 2. - Vocal Solo (Class E, fenialeV-Miss U. Cocker (Church of Christ) 1, Miss O. Lawrence (Crescent road) 2. Cornet Solo (Open Class}—Mr M. Timms (Oxford terrace) I. Pianoforte Solo (Cla&e B)—Maurice Grimmer (Kdoi Church) 1, Doris Simpson (Sydenham United) 2, Dulcie Hull (Crescent road) 3.
