ATHLETICS.

The first round of the annual development competitions in connection with Mr F. A. Hornibrook's Physical Culture Institute, took place lost night. Drs. W. H. Simpson end W. P. Browne weie judges, and Mr C. R. Wo.edge was referee. In the under 9st competition there were five competitors, and C. Sutton and S. Branch were left in the finals. In th© under 10st competition there were nine competitors, and H. L. West, J. A. Johnstone, aud H. Gundersen were left in the final. The finale will be decided on Friday night.

(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, October 1. At the winding-up meeting of the Festival cl Empire Sports Committee last night it was decided to hand over the credit balance of £53 5s Id to the Olympic Games Committee. The local committee was then formally dissolved.
