CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

MEETING OF'BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The Board of Governors of Canterbury College met yesterday. Present: —Messrs J. C. Adams (chairman), Geo. Kennio, M. Dalziel, W. Brock, T. W. Adams, C. H. Opio, G. T. Weston, Bishop Grimes and Dean Harper. Leave , of absence was granted Messrs L. B. j Wood, S. Hurst Seager and T. Hughes. \ The Chairman reported that he found it impossible to arrange for an overdraft at v less rate of interest than 5$ per cent, for adviances totalling up to £3000 or £4000. ; Tlie Registrar reported that the seats on the Board held by Messrs H. D. Acland (elected by the School Committees) and W. H. Montgomery (elected by the graduates) had become vacant, consequent on both members having been absont from the Dominion for six mouths. ' Their terms of office expired on Juno 30th 3 1913. It was decided that the rolls should close on October 7th, that nominations should close on October 14th, and the election (if necessary) should be held on October 21st. The College Committee recommended the Board to support the petition presented by the Professorial Board of ! Canterbury College to the Minister of Education* asking that tho teaching staffs of university colleges be included under the scope of the Teachers' Superannuation Act; that Mr£lugh Stewart, 8.A., Cambridge, b.o appointed Professor cf Classics at Canterbury College, 1 in accordance with the recommendation j of the commissioners, and that applica- j tions be invited for a full-time teacher \ of cooking, needlework, and elementary , hygiene, at the Girls' High School, at , a saiary of £120 per annum, with increments of £10 up to £150.

The report wa3 considered in committee and was agreed to.

The Board discussed, in committee, a < letter-from the Professorial Board, urging that that Board should bt> represented on the Board of Governors. It was dwided that a sub-commitEee, consisting of Messrs J. C. Adams, C. H. ' Opie, and W. % Izard, should confe* with two , members of the Professorial Board on the subject. | The next meeting was fixed for Tuesday, October 29th.
