Members know' li'ow much is to bo done, and it rests with them to deter--rnine whether the session is to longed. be/ond the end of October." following the usual custom, the Government will probably ask the House of .Representatives to sit on the last ' two Mondays"and on the last Saturday of tho session, and, if this is done, thero will ■bo nineteen sitting days to transact tho remaining business of the session. Thero arc at present twenty-two public Bills on the Order Paper, of whichsixteen have only been read a first time. "A Defence- Bill will be introduced, and Parliament will bo asked to place it upon the-Statute Book. The Land Bill, with amendments, which will probably bo circulated to- , morrow; the Valuation Bill, an important Bill though not. a l .policy measure, ■dealing with native matters, and a a Land Agents , Registration Bill on tho lines of that introduced by Mr Witty, aro all to bo dealt. with this session. There will be a debate on the principles of tho proposed reform of the Legislative Council, and the. House will bo asked to pass the Bill reducing tho term of appointment- of Legislative Council-, lora to threo years. Other legislative proposals to be,carried through deal with military and widows' pensions, tho - flaw in tho law which permits the em- * ployment of unregistered barmaids in private bars, and tho matter of water pollution. " Legislative authority will qlso be sought this session for the proposed system of loans to local bodies, • under which tho State will pay tho ■miking fund. There will bo a big 'Washing-up- Bill,' and a number of minor legislative proposals are also to . bo dealt with." ' The Public.. Works Statement will probably bo delivered towards tho end of next week.. THE LAND BILL.
It is understood that tho most imnortant of the additional clauses to tho Land Bill, which the Prime Minister intimated yesterday he would move -■ ivhon that measure was in committee, will give the right of purchase to lease-in-perpetuify tenants of ordinary Crown lands. .. ■
