CANTERBURY DRIVERS , UNION.

The monthly meeting of tho Canterbury Drivers' Union was held a-t the Trades Hall on Friday evening, Mr J. i>. Fraser, president, in the chair.

Correspondence was received, from the Heathcoto County Council, asking tho. Union to appoint a representative to attend a conference of local bodies and others in the City Council Chambers on October 3rd, to consider tho question of heavy traffic. It was resolved to comply with the request, and Mr J. D.. Fraser was appointed. Mr J. C. Ralph waited upon the Union on behalf of the X.C. Labour ■Representation Committee. He stated that- the Committee had arranged to hold an "All Nations Fair" in the Alexandra Hall during Carnival week, in November, and invited the Union to take charge of a court. It was resolved to fall in with the wishes of-tho committee, and n committee of ten were appointed to attend to the matter. It was resolved to enter a strong protest against the action of tho Government in'"despatching extra police, vo Wailii, as members were unanimously of opinion that the action was unnecessary, as tho strikers had been exceptionally well behaved, and the- prosecution and subsequent gaoling of strikers was unwarranted. It was resolved to giant the sum c• £2 2s towards tho prize fund of tho Labour Day picnic. It was resolved:—"That tho secretary be instructed to write to the City Council with reference to the practice of motor cyclists leaving their machines on the roads, about six feet from the channel, to the danger of all tratiic, and also protesting a'ga-nst owners r.f motor-cars being Mlowcd to leave tnem by the roadside all day long., obstructing tho traffic." It was decided that a special meotin* be held at an early date to discuss proposals to be submitted to employers o? drivers of motor delivery vans, also Hvery stable proprietors, with reference to a new award for their employees.
