TERRIBLE DESTRUCTION.
GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. (Received September 27th, 9.55 p.m.) TOKIO, September 27. Tens of thousands of families are homeless at Gifu and Aichi. Whole streets of houses collapsed in wholesale fashion, and temples, theatres, and schools were wiped out. Forests disappeared. Four hundred fishermen were drowned at Sappono. (Received September 28th, 12.15 a.m.) TOKIO, September 27. Communication has not yet been restored with other parts of Japan. People from the provinces coming into Toklo report appalling loss of life and damage to property.
