LYTTELTON MARINE BAND.

The Lyttelton Marine Band, which ! won tho B Section Contest at the • Cliristchurch Contest, held last January, and which will take part in the j championship at the Dunedin Contest, ; to be commenced on October 14th, has arranged a very attractive concert, which will be given in.the Theatre Royal on Thursday evening next, October. 3rd. I The band will play, amongst . other numbers, the test piece from Puccini's opera, "Madame Butterfly." This number was arranged for brass bands by Mr W. Short, the King's Trumpeter, during his visit to New Zealand, and is to be the principal test worlc at the coming contest in Dunedin. Instrumental numbers will include solos, duets, and quartets by members of the band, and the assisting artists will be Mrs Gowor-Burns (soprano), Mr Sidney Williamson (baritone), and Mr. J. Cox (tenor). The Christchurch Glee and Madrigal Society has generously offered its services, and, under tho baton of Mr Sidney Williamson, will be heard in several of its best glees and part songs and madrigals. Tho box plan will be opened at the Dresden on Monday.
