PIGEON SHOOTING.

CHRISTCHURCH GUN CLUB,

The Christchurch Gun Club held three sweepstake matches at Papanui on Saturday, preliminary to their big pigeon shooting match to-day. A number ot marksmen from. «11 part 3of the Dominion wero present, and some very accurate shooting was witnessed. Among those who took part in the matches wero W. Duncan, Vice-presidont of the New Zealand Gun Ctub Association, and E. P; Graham, ex-champion of New Zealand. The following were the results:— Invitation Handicap—First miss to count out, and -20 prize. Twenty-threo competitors took part, and on the tenth round A. Gardiner (26yd3), W. Wool yen (26yds), J. Rao (23yds), and E. F. Stead (27yds), who Bad killed all their birds, agreed to divide thc stake.

Waimairi Handicap, also a sweepstake. _1 nomination, and £20 prize. Twenty-five competitors faced the referee, and on the eighth round W. Grant (27yds). J. Rae (23yds), H. Jensen (27yds), C. Shallcrass (26yds), and W. Woolvcn (26yds), who had killed all their birds, each took £1 from tho stake, and shot on. .In the eleventh round J. Rae missed his bird, and bo tho remaining four divided the money. 4

Farewell Handicap—Sweepstake of £20. In this event twenty-seven marksmen took part, and a, good exhibition of shootiug was eiven. At the eleventh round E. F. Stead (27vds), J. Rae. (23yds). E. Brown (23yds), and E. P. Graham (30yds). who had killed all their birds, each took £i from the prize money and shot on. In thc fourteenth round E. P. Graham met with bad luck, his bird striking the wire enclosure, snd falling outside the fence. The birds running out in the twentv-«-econd .round, E. F. Stead and J. Rao divided the balance of the stake. The official duties of tho day were successfully carried through by Mr W. Caesin (referee) und-Mr E. F. Stead (secretary).
