SOME NARROW ESCAPES. NEW YORK, August 9. Fivo women, clad only in nightdresses, were rescued from tho sttamor James Gay.ey, which sank yesterday in Lako Superior, off Man.tou. after'collision with the steamer Rennsslaer. No lives were lost, although the Gayley sank in 20 minutos. She had a cargo of 7100 tons of coal, but was not insured. The loss is estimated at half a million dollars. The Rensslaer was baaly damaged, but made Marquette under her own steam.
