COUNTY COUNCILS.

RANGIORA. The monthly meeting of the Ilangiora County Council was held on Friday last. Present:—Mr F. Horrell (chairman), Crs. M. H. Stokes, W. Stalker, h. W. Campion, A. Mclntosh, H. Gnrnett, and H. Tallott. -It was decided that willows be removed from Cam between Grimwood's and lliver Marsh roads. The Acclimatisation Society acknowledged tlio Council's letter regarding willows in Waikukn creek, which would bo considered at tho Society's next" meeting. Messrs • R-obinson and Skevington applied to have a culvert near Mr McQuillan's enlarged, and it was agreed to inspect same. In reply to:a letter asking whether tho Council would carry out protective works , on Summerhill road, it was decided to re-' ply the Council's men would do tho work. The Telegraph Department granted permission to attach a lamp to a telegraph post at Southbrook post office. A grant of £3 was made to Kaiapoi Technical School classes. An offer to light two lamps at Cust for *,:*• a year each was referred to tho local councillors to arrango for. Tenders were accepted for cleaning Brown's drain, T. Shaw £26 4s; footpaths and channels at Woodend, J. Keeper £14. Tt was decided to form a side channel at Waikuku by day labour. The surveyor was delegated to report on Chapman's boundary road for repairs. Tho question .of reserves at Cnst was referred to the local councillors and tho purveyor. It was. agreed to purchase small birds' heads at ninepence per dozen. It was decided the Water Supjly Board do asked to supply pipes for ;he ford at the Cust township if the ."Council put them in position. Tho urveyor undertook to have certain footbridges at Cust repaired. It was do:ided to notify $he .Railway Department \o cut gorso fronting railway at Southjrook. It was decided to engage a drayman at Woodend with horse and dray at £130 a year. Notice was given of intention to Strike a general rate of three,farthings in the £ for tho Rangiora riding, and of five-eighths of ,i penny, in the £ for the Cust riding. It was; agreed to obtain plans and estimates for new* Council offices^at llanfrioro. Exception was taken to persons other than members of the Board making use of th© Board's stables. The month's receipts were £7G. The debit balance was £338 , 19s Id. Accounts £425 7s 8d were passed for payment.
