AQUATICS.

AItNST IN ENGLAND. When Arnst meets Barry on the Thames River at tho end of this month it will bo just four years since ho rowed his first match race. On August Ist, 1908, he defeated Harry Pearce (that was before Pearce was champion of Australia), and four and a half months later he became Champion of tho World. Latest advices from England state that Arnst has trained down to within 51b of his rowing weight—just o\ r er 13st—and that there are still throe weeks to go before the race comes off. This news has been received with delight by tho chanipion's friends in Sydney (wr.tes '" 'Rigger" in the ■ Sydney <f Daily Telegraph," on Wednesday last), who are generally of oyinion now that Arnst will have no dim'culty in boating Barry. The English climate evidently suits him, because ho is re r ported to bo in excellent health and spirits. Barry is said to be slightly over-trained, but it would not be wise to nlaco too much reliance on this, as he Is not a big man, and may look slight beside Arnst. However, there, is not much doubt in Sydney now as to who the winner should be and Arnst's statement that he does not ' experience much, if any difficulty with the water of the Thames makes critics more confident in tipping him. Already he is a strons favourite with the English critics. . . ■
