FROM " THE PRESS " OF 1862.
SATURDAY, JULY 12
! "We have been surprised, on reading the successive numbers of the 'Church Quarterly Paper,' at the absence of information respecting the Church property of Canterbury. We are told a good deal about that of Otago and Southland, but next to nothing about that of our own province. "\7e have waited patiently, thinking that possibly a full and satisfactory statement was in course of preparation. Thrice we have said to ourselves, 'It must surely appear in the next number.' But now the fourth number has come out, closing the first year's series, and containing much which will well repay perusal: thero is an article on LayIteaders, a subject, of grave importance; there is a continuance of the 'Tradition of the Middle Island,' higbiy anthropophagous and interesting; there ds a letter on the work of the 'Melanesian Mission College,' giving a particular and most satisfactory account of this great, though unpretending work up to the present time; there is another of those clear and sensible papers on our schools and how to uso them; and there is some sensible miscellaneous information; but still nothing about the Church property."
