THE LIBERAL-LABOUR SPLIT
'Received July 10th, 10.20 p.m.) I/ONDON, July 10. Fifteen Liberal members of tho House of Commons, fearing the result of splitting tho progressive forces, urged tho Master of Elibank (Chief Whip) to recommend the Hanley Liberals to stand aside and support tho Labour candidate, in the interests of the Government's important legislative programme. Tho Master of Elibank refused, saying ho was merely confirming tbo freo decision of tho Liberal organisation to contest a scat whoso representative from 100(1 to 1010 accepted the Liberal Whip.
