ASHBURTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly -meeting of tho Ashburtou County Council was held on Friday. Present-.—Messrs C. J. Harper, (chairman), J. Cairns,. W. T. Lili, G. Murdoch, W. Morgan, and J. Studholme. It was decided to suggest to the Minister of Internal Affairs that the letters "Ash" bo tho registered letters for motor-cars and motor-cycles to be in future registered within the County. Fitzgerald at £4:# 13s 8d was accepted for the'protective works at the Ashburton river ;bed. - Mr Lill pointed out that owing to the con- ; dition of a main drain running down Ford's road from Tinwald to Flemington, a good deal of the land was being continuously flooded. It was decided that tho drain be cleared and repaired by day labour.
