MOUNT HERBERT.
'At the monthly meeting ; . of-the Mount Herbert County Council, held at Purau there were present:—-Council-lors Orion Bradley (chairman), A. ft. Fleming,-Hi Field, ,L..."-M".v Wilson, 1.. Hunter, Q. C. Manson, I. A. Davenport and Robert Allan. Correspondence was read from. F. R. H. Gardiner, pointing out the dangerous state of the bridge at Purau. The Council decided to tar and metal the surface at once. From i Messrs Manihera and Watson Rapaki, in ■ regard " to "the culvert at the foot of the hill. It was resolved bo do the work as soon as the gorso was cleared . from the road. Tenders were opened for building a workman's whare at Purau, and that of A. T. •Mutton, for the sum of £43 was ae•jeptod. It was decided to call tor fresh tenders for leasing tho reserve at Port Levy. All tho permanent workmen employed by the Council haying accepted tho position as ranger over the roads under their supervision, the additional pay will now be made. The position of the clerk was considered, it was resolved to increase his salary by £10 per annum, and allow him to attend at the office at Purau on the last Wednesday in the mouth only, instead of weekly, as hitherto. The Council upon rising visited the proposed improvement of the road at the jetty. Purau, and.decided < to start the work without delay.. Accounts amounting to £106 o.s were passed for payment.
