THE BIGGEST MOTOR SERVICE IN THE WORLD.
Tho Fairlio to Queenstown motor service lor maih* and passengers has the distinction of being tho longest distance motor -service, runn ng to tchedule time, m the world. New Zealand is P u OU iV of tllis scnrsc «- because despite the heavy grades of the mountain roads and tho innumerable creeks and riverbeds which Jio across the route, the marls have always been punctually delivered, and the passengers have always ••wifely reached their destination. A reporter recently had an interesting chat with Mr C. R. Jones, Chief Engineer of the Mount Cook Motor Co., in tho course of which Mr Jones referred to the fact that the latest additon tp the Company's fleet of cars was a moderately priced American car, a 30 h.n. "E.M.F./' which sells in New Zealand for £375. This car has beon used in the service since the New Year, and has cdvered in that timo 7500 miles without a sr'nglo stoppage to repair any mechanical fault. The car has proved a magnificent hill-climber, and has done the work very much better than the Company ever thought possible, while the cost of maintenance of this American car is infin'tesimal compared with that of tho expensive Continental cars which comprise the rest of the fleet. Tho Fairlie-Qucenstown route is noted for the hard, gritty duat wh'ch plays havoc with.car bearings, and the "E.M.F.'a" fine performances is, therefore, all the more remarkable. The experience of the Company with this car has been so eminently satisfactory, Mr Jones stated, that it is intended to purchase another before tho next tourist season begins. 0
