KAIAPOI.
A meotine: of the Kaiapoi Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Wednesday, when there was a largo attendance. Bequests were made for literature for tho hack-blo<:ks, and for clothing for the Relief Committee. It was decided to celebrate- White liibbon Day on the 12th, instead of June 15th, t.nd to ask a Christchimh deaconess to ■givo an addre&s. Two new members wero initiated. The President spoke on social purity lines, and it was decided to take up more aggressive work in this direction. The following resolution was unanimously passed :— "The members of the Kniapoi Women's Christian Temperance Union strongly protest against the publication of evidence in connection with assault cases, and in other cases of a similar naturo, believing it to have an unwholesome and degrading influence on the minds ol young people." Messrs 11. W. Dunn and \\. H. Keetley were yesterday nominated far tho vacancy in the Kaiapoi Borough Council caused hy tho resignation of Cr. Brunsdcn.
