DOMAIN BOARD.

The Christchureh Domain Board mot yesterday, when there were present: —. Messrs H. J. Beswick (chairman), A. D. Hart, W. H. Cooper. S. A. Staples, Geo. Harper and Dr. Cockayne. RESIGNATIONSThe Chairman said that Dr. Cockayne had recently been appointed to the Board to succeed Mr H. G. Ell, who had resigned. He felt sure that Dr. Cockayne would be a valuable member of the Board, and ho 'thought tho Board would heartily congratulate Dr. Cockayne on* tho recent honours conferred upon him as a botanist. Tho chairman also stated that Mr T. 11. Davey, M.P., had resigned his seat on the Board. The. resignation was accepted with resret. .Mr" Ell's resignation was afco accepted with regret. LADIES' HOCKEY PAVILION. The Canterbury Ladies' Hockey Association wrote, applying for permission to erect a pavilion near their playing grounds. The Chairman said that about two .years a≤o the Board decided to refuso to give a permit tor any further enclosure to be placed on. tho park. Mr Cooper said ■ that- tho exact s ; to would •■have to be specified, also tho nature of ■ tho ; proposed 'building, before tho Board could come to a decision on the matter. , ; MrS: A. The Chairman said that if.a general club house could bo erected it would not be so bad, but- he did not think it desirable to dot the park with small build ngs. • : Mr Hart said he was opposed to the erection of. any further buildings in tho park. : The secretary read tho minuto of tho resolution previously passed in January, 1910, and the chairman said ho would have to hold that that resolution would have to' bo rescinded beforo the application could bo granted. Mr Staples accordingly save tho necessary notice of motion- ■• GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATION. The Town Clerk wrote, stating that tho Council (iad increased their contribution to £450 per annum. It was resolved to thank tho Council for their donation. ' •'■ The Towu Clerk also wrote,, stating, that tho Council hau passed a resolution that tho Government should not nomiuate representatives unless it granted a subsidy, and urging the Board to provide .a Bill to amend its constitution in the direcctioii of liniiting representation only to those bodies .who contributed not less than £50 each to tho Board's funds. ..'■•'.' ; The" Chairman said it was a question >vhether the Board was the proper body to make representations regarding a change in its constitution. - Mr Harder said that any Bill .would have to be made a Government measure. Mr Hart said that what tho Council objected to vms that their representatives, were really "deadheads," for the Government contributed nothing to the Board's funds. . . , Mr Cooper moved that representations bo made to the Minister of Lands for a Government grant of £50 for each Government member on the Board. • The motion was seconded by Mr Hart and carried. GARDENER'S REPORT. . Tho head gardener reported that the following works had been pushed for,ward during the past month. The walk in the North. Park for foot traffic had been completed. Tho long grass had been cut on tho area which was to be cropped this reason, and tho planning of the area had been commenced. The footpath in the South Park was well on the' way to completion. Tho new bridgo over the main drain in the South Park j was also almost completed- A commoncement had been made in tho horse paddock to cut out the useless trees. Six football grounds had been cleared of the long grass at the expense of tho various club s ;. The general work in the Gardens had received special attention during the month. The old rose garden had been removed, and the land dug and remodelled for an ornamental shrubbery. The head gardener also reported that he had made a special trip to Hanmer for the purpose, of collecting native plants. The Chairman said that Mr Young had. procured a really' fine collection of native plants.'It was resolved-to thank tho head gardener for his efforts in tho matter.
