TERRITORIAL CAMPS.
ASHBURTON. The work at tho Ashburton casual camp yesterday consisted of company drill, musketry instruction, physical exercises and mounted drill. During the course of his sermon at tho camp on Sunday afternoon, tho chaplain, the Rev. E. Whitehouse, spoke very forcibly and earnestly on the value of discinlino in the building up of character. He hoped the men would pay close attention to what their instructors endeavoured to. impart to them, and so behave that they would be able in after years to look back upon their camp life and general military training with true feelings of prido and pleasure. .Referring to the alleged charges of misbehaviour which had been reported against several of the Territorials by the police. Mr Whitehouso remarked that he felt sure the men had been unjustly charged, and he had been delighted to find that there had been indignation throughout the cam*> on account of tho statements which had been made. Speaking to several of the officers at tho camp yesterday, our correspondent gleaned that several civilians were ordered off tho camp grounds on Sunday evening on account of the language they were using. The officers are determined that not only all who are under canvas shall behave themselves in. a reasonable and orderly manner, but that steps will bo taken to immediately eject any civilians who do not' behave themselves. The report which appeared in "The Press" as to what actually occurred on Friday night was fully confirmed by • both officers and mon.
