The- Springs County Council mot on Thursday. Present: —Messrs Andrew (chairman), Hyan, Lochhead, Wolfe, autl Fleeto. Corresiiondoncn was read from F. C. Murray, asking tho Counoil to clean tho drain on Springs road. ■Declined. A. TCiehes, Greenpark. giving notice, that if tho drain, draining McColl's estate, which runs through Mr W. 15. Andrew's land, was not | cleaned within fourteen days, legal pro- | feedings would bo taken against the! Council. As tho drain in question is a hoiindary between the two properties, tho Council was of opinion, that it was a. matter for arrangement hetween those interested. J. Doherty. drawing the Council's atiention to the water channels and footpaths in Lincoln tow.nship, it was decided to clean tho channels and improve the footbaths as .soon as possible. Patersnn and Newton, C'.B.. wrote ri'comincudinir contractors for taking out the shingle bars in the 1.1 river. As thn contractors had not turned up, the Council decided to make enquiries .'us to whether tho Ellesmere Drainage Hoard's dredge was available for the work. It was decided to apply for J', grant of CSOO towards tho cost of taking out tho shingle and clay bars in th*» LI river, and a further grant lor roading tho Lake lands. It was also decided to write the Minister and weinher for the district, with a view of aeriuiring tho waste lands at the '-lay Iwr. A ratepayer not having complied with air order to cut a fonr<« overhanging a tmblir. drain, it was decided to iake legal proceedings to enforco the order, Th<> eliairmnn nf th« Hospital pud Charitable Aid Board wrote convening a mcetinrr of representatives nf local Ivodies in North Canterbury for tho purpose of selecting cM'-'gntes to attend a conference, in Wellington to cons ; 'W the proposed Local Government Bill. The Chairman was annointed to r enb the Council at ir-o meeting. The Clerk reported thnt the accounts had been audited, but the halanee-sWet had not yet received f'-om Wellington. It was also reported that owing to the recent heavy rains the gravelling contract whs at n standstill, and that very little progress hod been nnde in olenning the district clroins, and that owing scarcity of labour all the drain contracts bad not been let. It was decided in inspect the outlet of Powell's drnin with a view of making better provision- for storm water.
