KAIAPOI.
The installation of Mr R.. Wylie as Mayor of Kaiapoi took place last night. Present:—Crs. Bate, Brunsdon, Barnard. Ethorington, Renaldie, and, Revell. Cr. Brunsden and the Town Clerk witnessed the Mayor's declaration, tho Clerk then investing him with' tho j collar of office., j Tho senior councillor, Cr. Bate, congratulated the Mayor on his re-election, j the other councillors also extending felicitations. The. Mayor thanked the councillors for their kind expressions, and went on to refer to the progress of the borough during the past 'year, referrin-j particularly to the erection of tim library and fire brigade station,' whieli'"Tio said, would prove a credit to the town. The repairs to tho traffic brid.ee had improved that structure to such an extent that it was,now better than when first erected. Tho Finance Committeo, witli, the calls mado upon the funds, had conducted their business well. The releasing of £131 from a loan mauring, and probable increases in rents from reserves, .was ,expactcd to plraco tho v Council in a very good position, financially. After referring to other branches of work, the Mayor concluded by paying a tribute to the efficiency and invaluable assistance of the' Clerk, Mr C. H. Wright, who briefly replied.
