Meeting. ■The performance of Los Angelos in winning tho Hawke's Bay Cup yesterday with 9st lQlb may bo regarded as ono of the best in tho hi.--j.ory of tho race. Only once previously has that weight been carried to victory in the race, and that was in 1876, when a horse uanicd Maori Weed, won with Ost 101b. Tho race then was ran over a mile and three-quarters, and no time is given in the records. <thc timo the race has been run over a mile and a-half Los Angelos's time of _mm "56 1-oth sec has twice boon beaten—by Tire in IfKK). with 2min 35 2-sth sec, and Bridge in 1910, with 2min 36sec. Tiro and Bridge, however, carried respectively 201b and 281b less than Los Angelos. . ■ Tho field, for tho Hawke's Bay Cup yesterday included Los A_gelos, Alasterpiecc, ,-md Midnight "Sun, who finished first, second and third respectively in tho Great Autumn Handicap. Lor Angelos and Mid_ight Sim reproduced their Riccarton form by running first and third, but Masterpiece was unplaced. Although the field for the Hawke's Bay Stakes, to-day will lack Autumnus and Ermengarde, The best two-year-olda of-the season, the raco will be interesting as it will furnish another opportunity for comparing thi- Aucklander, Prin<*e Soult, with some of tho othor Southern two-year-olds. The New Zealand-bred Pa kau ran second in tho Hurdle Race at the City Tattersall's Autumn Meeting in Sydney on April 20th, but was awarded the race on a, protest against the winner, Jolly Boy, for interference. Owing to the big strike in England, tho stewards of tho Jockey Club empowered stewards of meetings to abandon their fixtures when the local police authorities notified they were unable to give them adequate protection/or the railway authorities notified their inability to-provide adequate means for the conveyance of racehorses to a meeting. It may be added that several clubs abandoned their meetings.
