OUTBREAK IN THE CITY,
At 4.42 a.m. yesterday tho Fire Brigade*-- turned out in responso to a call from a building at 21'o .*>t. Asaph street. Tho buildnig consisted of two floors and a basement, the ground floor and the basement being occupied by .Messrs hrcder-ck Cress and fcions, \vino and spirit merchants, and tbo second floor by tho Excelsior. Club. The fire, which is tnought to havo originated in a drawer in a table iv tiie front office' had secured a good hold, and-was attacking tbo ceiling when the brigade arrived, but by good work tho brigade was successful m arresting tho outbreak, which would undoubtedly havo been very serious had the spirits caught tiro. As it was, the offico and it s contents ivero severely damaged. The building, which was owned by the trustees of tho late Mrs Eliza White's estate, was insured in the Victoria office for. £1800, and the contents for £4000 in the Zealand office.
