The-bonus certificates of tho Government .Insurance Department wero posted* yesterday, so that thio grteat 1 majority of policy-holders in New Zealand have-received them to-day. The recent valuation discloses a very prosperous state of affairs, and tho rato of bonus' has been increased ' all round, compared with previous years. Tho "number of policies was 49,376, while tho sums assured amounted to -£12,683,000,' made up 0f..£11,514,000 original sums assured, and £1,169,000 bonus additions. Tho surplus (after specially 'strengthening tho valuation basis, by £101,500, and tho investment 'fluctuation reserve by £30,000) amounted to £210,000. Individual bonuses have been allotted on the sum assured and bonuses in force, andrango from 21s to 31s per cent per annum on the original sum assured, according to amount of previous , bonuses. The whole of tho reversionary bonuses thus allotted amounted to £333,994. Since "tho inception of tho Department in 1870, £1,600,000 has been distributed as cash, profits amongst policy-holders, .making additions to policies amounting to £2,900,000-. ~
