SYDENHAM POST OFFICE CLOCK.
A CANVASS TO BE INSTITUTED
A meeting was held in the Sydenham Library last evening to consider means of raising funds for the purchase' of a clock for the tower of the new post office. Mr A. H. Webb, chairman of the Sydenham Clock Committee, presided, and the Mayor-elect (Mr H. Holland) was present. -It was reported that about £50 had been subscribed by the public, and that the City Council bad made a grant of £150. A suitable clock, with Cn unbridle sl'des, was nt present availabfo in Wellington a* the price of £560, so that if another £100 were collected the Government subsidy (£ for £ up to £300) would make up the sum required. Messrs G. E. Good and J. Forrester spoke in favour of instituting a personal canvass of residents. The Rev. J. N. Scotter suggested that a small committee should be Bet up to draw up a list of persons to bo called upon. Mr Forrester moved, and Mr Good seconded, that a suitable canvawer should be cringed to collect the money on a 10 ncr cent, basis of remuneration. The motion was carried.
