VISIT OP GENERAL BADENPOWELL.
A special meeting of tho Christohurch District Executive was held on. Monday, to^-consider tho question of the Chief Scout's visiij. As well as Mr Goodman (District Commander), Air Beck, Mr Carrington, Colonel Cresswell, and Rev. W. H. Orbell, wero present, I>r. Inglis, North Canterbury Commissioner, who was in the chair.
It was decided to back up Colonel Cossgrove's letter to the Minister of Railways asking for free passes for country Scouts present at the inspection, and it was also decided to circularise District Commanders with a view to all the country districts of North Canterbury being represented. Arrangements will bo made for old Scouts to parade with the present boys, and Messrs Flanagan and Ronnie will be asked to organise this part of the inspection. Tho echools will be asked to give tho boys a half-holiday on May 31st, the day of the Chief Scout's visit; and appeals will be made to employers to allow boys, where possible, to be present at tho afternoon inspection. Although the Chief Scout is averse to any great displays or functions, he is anxious to meet the district officers; and a luncheon or dinner will bo arranged at which this may be done. Colonel Cossgrovo will command a parade of all the Christchurch Scouts, to bo held at 2.30 p.m. at King Edward's Barracks, for tho purpose of practising tho circular rally, a manoeuvre whicb, in the Scouts, takes the place of the military march past. It was decided that tho Executive should meet again before the actual inspection, when it is hoped arrangements will be well under way.
