HON. T. BUXTOX'S VIEWS
(press association tkleghaji.) WAIMATE, April 30. Speaking at the dirtier given last night by Air Norton Francis, tho retiring Mayor, to the borough councillors, tho Hon. Thos. Buxton. referred to tho political situation. He said that personally he desired to forget tho Ward versus Massey element in Parliamentary life, and ho would rather sco all tho people's representatives working together solidly for tho good of tho country. -Thero was littlo between the Liberal and the Reform Party, but ono thing that clamoured for attention iv this country was land settlement. He was not for making bargains with any or all of the odd men of tho House with a view to retaining tho Treasury benches, but he preferred the laying down of a policy by the present Ministry, and their standing or falling by that policy. They only asked ineniiwhilo 56r a chance to provo themselves. Mr Frank Smith, M.P., said that the party that would earn the thanks of this country would bo the party that would resolutely faco and solve tho problem of Labour, not by truckling to the workers, but by courageously meeting tho trouble.
