The leading stokers of th« Titanic state that the bulkhead doors, which were* of wootl, were opened once to admit Mr Shepherd, an engineer, broke a ley by falling through a manhole. of the stokeholds remained dry after the collision and work in tho engineroom went on until two o'clock. when thirty-six fires were drawnBefore tho end one of the enginee-s shouted to the f.toker&: "You havo dou» your best, get on deck. 1 ' The. last titoker to leave, on looking back, f-aw th« floor of the engine-room break. A great hole appeared and an engineer fell through the bottom <f the vessel.
