A meeting; of the committee of the ' Ashburton A. and P. Association was held on Tuesday, Mr A. Drummond in the chair. . • Letters were read from Mr TV. Nos- ' worthy, M.P., and Mr TV. J. Dickie, M.P., promising to give their support to any measure which might be brought forward in the House to suppress tho indiscriminate nso of pea. rifles by irre- . sponsiblo youths. i A letter was read from tho Agricultural Department, stating that a noxious plant which had been found in tho Ashburton district/ and forwarded by the Association for information as to, :ts nature, was tho Thorn Applo or Jim- j son weed (Datura stramonium), which was common in many parts of New i Zealand. It belonged to the potato J family. All parts of tho plant wero j narcotic and poisonous, especially the | seed, and during times when feed was short stock had been known to eat it Av:th fatal results. Received with , thanks.
A letter was read from the Timaru I A. and P. Association, stating that at an informal meeting of the committee the question of the clashing of the dates of .tho Timaru and Ashburton , Shows had been considered, and it was j regretted that Timnru could not sec ' its way to alter its dates from the last Wednesday and Thursday in October. It was decided to write to and inter- ; view tho Timaru committee with a view to tho Timaru Show being held on the Tuesday and Wednesday, so that the Ashburton dates could bo fixed for Thursday and Friday, October 31st and November Ist. |
A letter was read from Mr Walter Pickles, agent for tho British and New Zealand Meat and Produce Company, enclosing a cheque for £3 3s. amount of the special prize offered at the .Summer Show for a of fat lambs showing the best net results after being frozen and exported. The nnzo goes to Mr A. Brown, of Elgin, and tho results were as under: —

The dates of the combined Winter Show were fixed for June 14th and loth. A discussion took place on stack building, and a committee was appo:nted to go into th* question of tho Association offering a "prize annually, with a view to encouraging the proper building, of stacks.
