Captain Amundsen, tbo hero oi the South Pole, can only give one lecture in Christchurch—on Friday evening next at tho Theatre Royal, when, juelgin" by the preliminary booking at Milner' and Thompson's, the occasion should move a record-breaker. II ie lecture "will bo illustrated by over 100 coloured slides, which were taken by Captain Amundsen all through bis war with the ice and snow to the Pole—a distance of 800 miles across a snowwhite plain after leaving the vessel. It was an endless scene of white silence, but tb,o dogs and the skis helped him through, and after spending three days at the Pole, taking observations to prevent the possibility of a mistake, they struggled back again over the white silence to' tho ship, the day's ration often being reduced to v helping of boiled'dog. Amongst the audience on Friday night will be the members of the Scott Expedition who are now in New Zealand, as the guests of Captain Amundsen.
