Tho j characters were represented by very j capable actors and actresses, the parts jof Becky Sharp, Amelia Se.lJey and the i Marquis of Steyno were amongst thoso | that stood out prominently though th.> j east was throughout a good one and I the acting was natural and convincing. ! One of tho fine, scenes in the film. ! which is a fairly long one. was the bril- ! liant ball at Brussels on the eve of tiio ; Battle of Waterloo. Tlie scenery and j dressing were most appropriate aud the ! film taken as a whole was one of the j finest seen here. Other fino dramatic j films were " Arson at Sea," a Dutch | film depicting a story of much power, [and '"'The Old Bookkeeper," a film tf j much pathos. "By the Zuyder Zee " j depicting the people and scenery of j .Rotterdam most interestingly, and excellent, studies of Chinese and Japanese maids formed the subject of an- ' other film. An excellently acted j coined}- was " Hypnotising the Hypi notiser." Tho latest '' Patho Gazette I depicted the latest happenings. There j was a largo audience present and tho programme was appreciatively received. The orchestral music was a;>I propriatc. To-night the same films will bo screened.
