LAUNCESTON, April 7. At the annual conference of tho United Commercial Travellers' Association, a discussion on thc Association's position in Netf Zealand resulted in tho carrying of the following resolution :— •'"that a reciprocal arrangement with regard to entree- to clubs bo arratigedi in the hope that it may result in a closer bond of union,"
Another resolution adopted iras:—» •'That as the licensihg laws in tho different States aro tending to reduce the number of hotels, to the detriment Of tho comfort and convenience of the travelling public, tho Confcrcjieo recommends its official organ, the 'Australasian Traveller,' to make a stano! through its columns against any further reduction in the number of hotels."
lii the cortnse of the discussion the New Zealand delegates, Messrs McPherson and Mitchell, reported tliat there had" been a marked influence for tho worso in regard .to accommodation for tho travelling public. Tho position might improve- as conditions adjusted theftiselves, but at present thc inconvenience was vcrv serious.
Mr McPherson, President, of tho Dunedin Commercial Travellers' Association, was elected President of the United Association for the ensuing year.
The next Conference was fixed for Dunedin nest Easter.
