Nominations for the Wetland Racing Club's Meeting close this evening. Nominations for the West land Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting aro duo tins evening. The Soutiiland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting opens to-day. Tho field tor the chief event, the Southland' Cup, includes Parable, who lias been accepted for in tho Great Autumn Handicap. W. Ryan, who lias been in Australia, for the past eight .months, and has had a fair measure of success over there, is duo to arrive back-in-•'Welling-ton to-day, and will be riding J. W. Lowe's horses at Masterton to-morrow and Friday. Portland Bill, who was a double winner at Nelson last-week, has been placed under offer, at.200 guineas, to a Greymouth , sportsman, and if a deal takes place the brown gelding will in futuro be trained by F. Smith, who until last week had charge of Waipunui. It is stated that H. Gray applied to the Hawke's Bay Metropolitan Club for an adjournment of the meeting set down for to-morrow —when his appeal will be hoard- —till a later date, to enable him to ride at tbo Masterton Meeting, but, tho comntitteo could not see its way to accede to his request, nor to another one asking that counsel bo allowed to appear for him. According to a Hawke's Bay writer Motu, -who pulled up lamo after contesting the hurdle race on the opening day of the Napier Park Meeting, is now practically sound again. Espartero, who will as usual be ridden by J. O'Connell this winter, is said to be in excellent trim. Other jumpers in Merriwai and Woolloomooloo, aro now getting into shape, though it must always be douhtful whether the first-named of this pair will survive another preparation. The New Zealander Hoanga has been awarded 12st. 21b in the Great Eastern Steeplechase at the Onkaparinga (South Australia) Meeting. Concave, with 12st 51b, is the only horse weighted higher. Sea- l>o.ll, another New Zealand-bred jumper, has lOst 121b. At tho Queensland Turf Club's St. Patrick's Day Meeting, Lottie, a mar& by the New Zealand-bred horse Nouetto from Pyrenees, yon the St. Patrick's Handicap, of 250 soys, one mile and a quarter, with 7st 41b in the saddle. She ran the distance in 2min HJsec. At tho Bombay races on Fobrunry 14th, tho «Bombay City Plate, of 7500r5. to tho winner (one mile and a quarter), was won by Coat of Arms, 7st 131b (8 to 1 against), with Brogue, 9st 131b (5 to 2 on), second. There wero only five runners, and Aborigine, 9st 31b, was fourth. Wcotton rodo Brogue, and entered a protest against Coat of Arms. The objection was dismissed. ' . At tho conclusion of tho Southland Racing. Club's Mooting, F. Douglas, a jockey who has spent a considerable timo in Southland, leaves .Tor Riccarton, where he will take service with W. McDonald. S. Smith, who is to ride Pinul at the Invercargill and Rirorton fixtures..'will also leave the south for Christcliurch within the next few weeks. He has been engaged by G.'Murray-Aynsley, and will school Martino and other horses view of the winter jumping season. Mr W. G. Garrard, a member of the N.Z. Trotting Association, arrived in Invercargill on Monday evening, with the object of witnessing how tho light harness sport is conducted in that part of the world. ',
