The Americans are going ahead with oilengined ships, and it is stated that there will, bo fifteen of auch vessels on the Great Lnkee nest year. The Pacific Mail Company als« is planning n line of large fast vessel a of IG,OOO horse-power to run between New York and the far East by -way of ■-the Panama.Canal,' San Francisco, npd Honolulu. There will be four ships,- all: burning l oil fuel, and coating nearly £600,000 each. The principal, fuel installation mil'be at San Fran- ( cisco,. but a depots will also be erected at Honolulu. The run between New York, and Sun Francisco will ;be made in seventeen days, and oil will bo ■carried in the double bottoms of the vessels as well ea in bunker tanks. . ■• ■ . '
Meanwhile, at home, our own Admiralty has placed heavy contracts with Scottish oil companies for liquid fuel for the Navy and Tefincd oil for submarines. The Government has acquired ft seaboard site near the now naval base n% Hosyth for the..erection of oil storage tank". . ■ . - '..
