ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.
There was a large attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashbur-ton-yards - yesterday, and the entry was tho largest for some years t>ast. Tho total yarding comprised 16.26&' sheep, of these IR2O were fat ewes. 370 fat wethers. 3625 fat lambs and 10,653 stores. Despite the large yarding x>i .'fate there were'very few lines passed, and competition was particularly keen. freerJng buyers operating freely. Prices were very firm, ewes making up to 13s Id. wethers to 17s 3d and lambs to ,17s 9d. Prices obtained were as follows: —Prime ewes lls 6d; to 13s Id. medium auality 10s to lls 4d, light and inferior 7s .3d to 9s 9d. merino ewes 8s 6d:; prime wethers 16s to 17s 3d. medium weights 14s 7d to los Bd, light weights 12s 6d; prime freezing lnriibs 16s to 17s 9d. medium weights 14s 8d to'lss 10d. lighter weights 12s 6d to 13s 4d. There was a very large entry of store sheei>, and the demand was slightly better at the, beginning but went off before half'the .sale was over, and-of the 10,653 yarded, about
7,718 were passed by auction. Sales were:—ll2 full-mouth half bred ewes 10s 6d, 291 sound-mouth at los 6d. 156 at 13s "Bd, .32 at 12s. 100 two-tooth at 19s 6d, 145 Failing-mouth at 8s Id, 39 two-tooth at 16s 7d. 164 sound-mouth at 12s 3d, 98 at lls-lid. 173 sound and'failing-mouth-at *ils 9d. 147 fail-ing-mouth at 7s 10d, 254 sound and failing-mouth at 12s 9d; 65 four and six-tooth three-quartcrbred ewes 12s 3d, 144 four and six-tooth at 16s; 40 sound and. failing-mouth* at 8e 2d; 115 failing-mouth at 7s lid, 101 sound and failing-mouth at 8s 4d, 88 two-tooth at 17s, 217 sound-mouth merino wethers 3s 3d, 100 six and eight-tooth halfbred at 12s 6d. 221 halfbred lambs (mixed sexes) 13s 7d. 54 three-quarterbred lam'j at 13s. 106 halfl/red late lnmbs at 6s, 4!?4 tlirce-quarterbred wether lambs 8s 4<l, 59 at Bs. 34 three-quarter-bred late lambs (mixed sexes) 5s Bd. 25 at 3s 6d. Fat steers made £6 5s and lat tx)ws £6 7s 6<l. Store steers £3 7s 6tl, cows in profit £6 ss.
