(press association telegrams.) HAMILTON, March 19. Thomas George Smith, manager of the pumico works at Ohinewai, while pushing a truck of coal into a. siding slipped .and fell. The truck went over him, his right leg off above the knee, and the left below tho knee, and also severing the left arm above tho wrist. Ho was sent to tho Hamilton Hospital. - AUCKLAND, March ID. A Dane named Axel Snertihge, <v nimittod suicide in Mount Eden Gacllnst night. On February '■ 26th Snertingo was . sentenced at Hamilton to nine years' imprisonment and ten years' reformatory treatment for assault at Frankton, in which ho attacked with a knifo three men, one of whom subsequently died. There was nothing iv tho man's demeanour in gaol to indicate a tendency to suicide. He was seen at 8 o'clock last night by the warder in tie usual way, but this" morning, just before 7 o'clock, Snertingo was *ound hanging by his hammock rope, dead Ho had apparently got into his hammock, fastened the rope round his- neck, and jumped off, tho effect being strangulation, though the neck was not broken. The doctor stated that he had osen dead somo time.'
