BOROUGH COUNCILS.
LYTTELTON.
Tho Lyttelton Borough Council met last night present:—The Mayor (Mr M. J. Miller), Councillors J. Guthrie, W. Radcliffe, C. Cook, W. Luko, J. R. Webb, F. J. Pago, W. T. Lester, J. H. Collins, and S. R. "Webb. It was decided to take the necessary legal steps to close tho right-of-way connecting Oxford and Donald streets. The Foreman of Works was granted leave of absence to attend a conference of Municipal Engineers at Wellington about the end of the present month. In regard to supplying water in bulk to the Heathcote County Council for residents of the Heathcoto Valley, tho. Water Supply Committee recommended that a price be fixed at one shilling and nineuence per thousand gallons, the Borough Council to fix its own ! meter, but in tho event of the County Council ceasing to take water from the Borough within five years. the latter to refund the cost of tho metor. The recommendation was discussed in committee, and on resuming it was reported that tho Council had decided to defer further consideration of the matter until next meeting of the Council. In connection with tho now reserv«r : on Little Brenchley road, tho Water Supply Committee recommended that the excavating bo dono by free labour instead of prison labour, that tenders be called for tho excavating, and that tho whole of the concrete work bo done by day labour, under the supervision of the Foreman of Works. The recommendations were carried.
