MR H. B.IRVING IN "HAMLET."
To-night will marlc.one of the greatest events in. the . theatrical history of Christchurch, eignalieing as it will the first appearance here of Mr H. B. Irving. Mr Irving's season, which is limited to thirteen nights, wilj be inaugurated with a production ot "Hamlet," in which the celebrated actor created quite a eensation in Australia, and in which ne has attracted record audiences throughout the Domin'on. Seats in the dress circle and reserved stalls for this evening's production can be selected at Milner and Thompson's from 9 o'clock, and tickets for the early door stalls and gallery can be purohased at Woodward's. The doors will be opened at 7 p.m., and the performance begins at 7.45 sharp. Although Mr Irving staged "Ham.«t" in Sydney for no less than four weeks, so great was the demand for seats that on each occasion hundreds were unable to obtain admission. Miss Dorothea Baird wil] take the role of Ophelia, in which she is said to be charnrng, and it is stated she displays very high dramatic powers in the mad scene. Tne cast, which is exactly the same as that which - supported Mr Irving at his farewell London product'on of "Hamlet, ,, will be found on the front, page of this issue. A feature of tho prodnction, which is staged under the personal supervision of Mr Irving, will be tho dressing and mounting. Mr Tom Reynolds is stage manager, and Herr Slapoffeki musical director.
