His Excellency the Governor has arranged to pay an official visit to Gisborne on Friday. 9th February, remaining till Sunday, the llth. His Excellency will travel overland from Rotorua to Gisborne.
Misses Janet and Jean Jameson, of Tighnabruaich, Kyles of Bute, arrived in Christchurch yesterday.
Mr W. L. Bosschart, Consul-General for tho Netherlands, who is visiting New Zealand, with the object of promoting trade between New Zealand and tho country he represent*, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr J. F. Buchanan, of Little River, will leave to-day on a trip to England.

■Mr and Mrs W. Arnott,- who are leaving the Morven district, were accorded a farewell social the other evening. Mr Arnott was presented with a pair of prism binoculars, and Mrs Arnott with a gold chain.

Mr A. E. Mathews, who has been assistant-postmaster at Ranjfiora for about eighteen years, has been appointed postmaster at Huntley, in the Auckland district.
Our Dunedin correspondent telegraphs, that Mr C. F. Alexander, manager of tho City Corporation Tramways, who was an applicant for the position of manager of the Wellington Tramways, and who was in the running for the position, has withdrawn his" application.

A well-attended meeting of Mr T. H.
