TRAMWAYMEN'S WAGES.
ARBITRATION COURT'S AWARD
It is understood that information lias been received in Christchurch regarding the Arbitration Court's award in the dispute between the Christchurch Tramway Board and its employees. ' From information gleaned from various eources, it appears that motoraien who have had over three years' experience are to be paid »s 2id per hour, as against Is lid per hour previously paid, and that conductors who have had over three years experience will be paid Iβ OJd per hour, as against Is per hour previously. Student conductors will commence at 9Jd, as against 9d per hour, and wiu rccave Is per hour after the first twelve months. . ■ , It is further stated that the award provides for an eight hours' day, but that the Beard has the option of working the men an hour extra before overtime is paid. ... Tho Union applied to have all shifts finished in ten hours, but it is understood that twelve hours is the period stipulated in the new award. Overtime wiil be paid at timo and a half, and double rates will bi> paid on Good Friday and Christmas Day In regard to uniforms which the Union asked should be supplied free, it is stated that under tho new arrangement tho employees will have to contribute a quarter of tho cost, as against half the cost at present. _ The free passes for employees, which were applied for by.tbe Union, were not granted. ____________„
