Mr Bedford must bo given every credit for his plucky fight. Hβ ' was up apa T nst a big gun .in the Hon. J. A. -Millar, who, despito the fact that he is a meraßer of the Ward " Ministry, commanded many votes on account of his own personality and the great work ho has done for Dunedin in the past He also had a great lot of followers in the workers, and also in tho young business and professional men, of the o'ty, and they rallied round him in grent stylo during the last few days. At the declaration of the poll Sir Millar was received with great cheering, and it was fully ten minutes before he was 'able to speak, co enthusiastic were the people. Considering the feeling locaDy aga'nst tho present Government, ( Mr Millar can take his victory as a (great 'and glorious one. He thanked the thousands present for returning.,Jhim for the seventh time as iheir representative, and later epoko fromthfl "Kvening Star" office, wnere ho was cheered to the echo. A large crowd waited for him outrde tho office, the horses were unharnessed from his and a dozen or so of young men, took chargo, and pulled his carriage through the town amidst great enthusiasm. The feeling hero is that the Government have' shot thwr bolt, and that the Reform 'Party now have their opportunity. (PRESS' ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) TIMARU, December 14. Not much interest was shown in the Timaru election, as the contest was supposed 1 ,to ho a "moral" for Mr Craigio. A large crowd assembled to learn tho results elsewhere. Most interest appeared to he taken in the Dunedin West fight. (fresb association teleobam.) WELLINGTON, December 14. ' A great dual of interest was taken in the seoond ballots to-day. Voting vras brisk all day, arid as on the occasion of xho first, ballot, the streets were throngett/all day, and in the evening also great crowds gathered in front of the various result" boards, and proceedings were lively a3 tho returns were posted. Candidates, successful and otherwise, addressed the electors from the newspaper talconies. Beautiful summer weather prevailed all day and evening. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELKGEAM.) , WAIMATB, December 14. Mr Macphersoji briefly thanked the electors when tho final figures were announced, but the crowd refused to give Mr Smith, a hearing.
