DARING BURGLARIES.
WALTHAM SCHOOL ENTERED,
For some 'months past, the polioo authorities havo boon, searching for a burglar or burglars who hare committed most daring burglaries at Waltham school. iOn Thursday night last, when most of the people of tho district were busily engaged hearing and seeing election results, tho fourth entrance was mado into tho school by the tlueves, tho rooms ransacked, and a small sum of money, stolen. The secretary of. tho School Committee informed a ' Press" representative' that on the first two occasions when the school was entered, nothing of any importance was stolen, but the third time some four weeks ago, 1000 rounds of ammunition and seven cadet rifles were carried off. This time, entrance was effected by breaking open the window of tho headmaster's room. Thence the thief or thieves made their way into the rest of the school, and found come value attaching to the ammunition and rifles. On Thursday evening, however, the school was left in a disgraceful state. The intruders entered by breaking the lock of a corridor door, and in their course through the building, spoiled no less than a. dozen locks. They entered each room, scattered books and papers on the floor, and left one fire-place in a very bad state. A sum of money from one of the teachers' desks was stolen, but as far as oan bo ascertained, nothing'else of value has been missed. The only clue to the perpetrators of the crime is a footmark' left on the third occasion on which the school ; was entered; It is presumably the imprint of the* boot of a young man, but further than this the authorities cannot go.
