GREYMOUTH, December 8. The elections were not without their surprises on the West Coast. Contrary to general anticipation Mr Seddon managed to considerably improve his position in Westland, increasing his 1908 majority of lit) votes to He surprised his friends as. well as his opponents. Mr Michel lost considerable ground in Hokitika, where,it had been confidently expected that his majority would go over 300, whereas it just reached 180. The closeness of the Buller election created something of a sensation, Mr Colvih's return be r ng in doubt until a number of small country returns came to hand. Mr Munro put up a great fight, reducing a minority of•••' 998 in 1908 to 132 yesterday.
