THE ASHBURTON SEAT.
MR ftOSWORTHY'S PROSPECTS. The campaign for the Ashburton seat is to be vigorously continued by . the Opposition candidate (Mr. W. < Nosworthy), who headed the poll at the first ballot. His prospects of ultimate success are believed to do of the brightest, as he was only 232 votes short of an absolute majority on the first ballot. The corrected return gives Mr Nosworthy 2818 votes, Mr Kennedy 1496, Mr~"Maslin 1145,. and Mr McLachlan 409. It is safe to assume that Mr Nosworthy wiU receive a substantial proportion of the votes polled for the two candidates who have fallen out of the figlC However, he does not mean to tako anything for granted, and early next week he will resume his campaign. It.is a rather significant and encouraging fact that at tho first ballot he was at the top of the poll in thirty-four polling places, out'of a total of thirtyfive. Mr Nosworthy wiU speak in the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Tuesday, and in the Theatre Royal, Ashburton, on Wednesday.
Tho success of the Opposition throughout the country is the principal topic of conversation in the electorate, and Mr Nosworthy's supporters are preparing £or next Thursday with both confidence and enthusiasm.
