THE CANAL COMMISSION

The Canal Commission resumed yesterday morning, and was engaged all day in taking evidence. The following report of the proceedings has been forwarded by the Secretary to the Commission:—

At 9.30 a.m. 3'csterday the Commiesion rosumed its sittings, and interviewed Mr Hugo Friediander. The Commission then discussed the j question of the limitation ot its enquiries, and resolved that the following pronouncement (which was unani-n-ouslv agreed to by lue Commission) should bo published in the local newspapers forthwith:—"That, after having had a conversation with Mr Friedlander, tho Chairman of tho Lyttelton Harbour Board, on the eubject of the scope of the Commission, anu Mr Friedlander having suggested that the Commission should decide the point for 1 themselves, having in view the befit ml terests of the community, tho OomI mission now decide that they will takeinto consideration the -wholo can.-xl question in all its bearings, as presented in Mr Cyrus Williame's report of 2o±h November, 1905, and in all subsequent reports and all matters arising thereout." ■ lt -,Y as , reso,vo <* that the Commission m 1 L rlu,rs ?aj next (November 23rd), and then adjourn till January; in tho meantime, tho Commission should examine tho documentary 'evidence, a.nd hear such witnesses as* were available before next Thursday.
