John Bradshaw.—Bradshaw commoncod his career as a barrister, but was very littles known either as a lawyer or a politician, when, in his forty-r-ixth year, he was made Presi-d'-nt of the Hi?!. Court of Justice, instituted to try "Cliarles I. The reason for his appointment seems to have beer. the refusal of all the leading lawyers to serve on the tri.il, ar.d the necessity of having someone r-cssesscd of U-gal knowledge r.s tho pr.ifi-ident. For his services he was the house of tlie Dean of Westminster. £(.000, and large grants of lands, and made Chancellor of tho Duchy of Lancaster. On the solemn oceesion his manners were as short as his speeches were lengthy. He presided at other Royalist trials, and was a member of tho Parliament of 165-I. ar.d probably one of those ex-clud-ed for refusing to sign the engagement recognising Cromwell's authority. Thero is evidence that ho did not cot on well with the great Protector, but after Oliver's deaTh he was anpointed a Commissioner of tho Royal Seal, but died very shortly afterwards. Ho was buried in Westminster Abbey, .but Charles's officers had his body disinterred, together with those of Cromwell and Ireton, and gibbeted.
